Private | Public | Experimental Diary on Newsodrome

Or Nothing's Accidental...

By some strange circumstances I found my blog presented on newsodrome couple a days ago. On the page Top Art News, as one of the significant blogs on that topic for the day. That made me very curious how did it get there, so I wrote to the authours/founders of the site.
One of them, Itai Lahan, from Israel, answered that Newsodrome is a new service, quite in its infancy, trying to bridge the gap between the blogosphere and the general public. They do that by automatically gathering the most interesting up-to-date blog news on a wide variety of topics.
One of their topics is "Art", and their automatic artificial intelligence decided that I had a very interesting post.

(So thanks to the computer :) and the courtesy of mr Lahan)

Autori koncepcije su arh. Miodrag Šurjanac i Mirjana Bajić, istoričarka umetnosti.

Ponovo o SDO | Again about SDO

kolaz 2

Uzgred, evo i jednog linka sa super fotkama...

I've been writing in one of the previous posts about Seoul Design Olympiad, but today, with the first snow, arrived a package from South Korea with nice little things inside: Catalogue from the exhibition, award sertificate, eco pencil and a nice transparent bag that can also be used as a swim vest (who knows) as it is inflatable. :))
btw, here's a link with some great photos...

Crtež za Danijelu | Drawing for Danijela

Oblast - Šekspir i renesansne studije.
Prvi deo predavanja je "love and death - l'amour et la mort - sounds good: but why are we learning this? Understanding the past and the part we play in the continuity of Western culture."

My dear friend Danijela Kambasković-Sawers
has just won the position of Assistant Professor (Shakespeare and Renaissance Studies) at the University of Western Australia in Perth! In her lecture she used one drawing of mine, made specially for the occasion on the theme "Love and Death in the Renaissance".
The whole lecture should be on the net soon, I hope so.
Until then, here's the link for the University

Mesta koja volimo | Places We Love

Kao vatra u bakar, u moje jedino pamćenje;

thinking about...

Places We Love

Places we love exist only through us,
Space destroyed is only illusion in the constancy of time,
Places we love we can never leave,
Places we love together, together, together,

And is this room really a room, or an embrace,
And what is beneath the window: a street or years?
And the window is only the imprint left by
The first rain we understood, returning endlessly,

And this wall does not define the room, but perhaps the night
In which your son began to move in your sleeping blood,
A son like a butterfly of flame in your hall of mirrors,
The night you were frightened by your own light,

And this door leads into any afternoon
Which outlives it, forever peopled
With your casual movements, as you stepped,
Like fire into copper, into my only memory;

When you go, space closes over like water behind you,
Do not look back: there is nothing outside you,
Space is only time visible in a different way,
Places we love we can never leave.

Reč u prostoru - promocija knjige

Sreda, 17. septembar
19h, Happy centar, SKC

"Reč u prostoru" - promocija knjige
+ književna instalacija + muzička instalacija + party

Pozvani da učestvuju: Sladjana Ilić, Jelena Bogavac, Vasa Pavković, Nikola Vujčić, Enes Halilović, Dejan Matić, Milan Dobričić, Jovanka Uljarević i Srdjan Papić ( članovi žirija), Vladan Cerović, izdavač, kao i svi autori iz Srbije i regiona
Moderator i autor projekta: Vesna Kapor

Tragati, bez predrasuda, bez osuda i bez ideologije.

Vesna Kapor, autor projekta

White is white / txt / photos

/WHATISWHITE/

The question almost ridiculous in its seeming simplicity. White is white. A colour – the most basic of the spectrum. And that is all. …or is it?
The twenty-eight artists from the Balkans in this mixed show exhibition answer in works that traverse conceptions of white that extends beyond the mere paint box definition. The exhibition is the culmination of a journey that we, as curators, have embarked on in understanding these works in order to show them in a way that we hope will bring new light to the many ideas inherent in the concept of white. Sure, it would have been easy just to stick a bunch of white paintings up or even just to leave the gallery space completely empty á la White Cube, but that is not what you get here. Many of the works not only challenged our traditional notions of what white means, but extended our vision (and hopefully yours) of what white can refer to. While there are obvious references to white in the use of colour, what transpired through our many viewings and discussions was largely this ‘theme and variation’ concept of white as a blank slate/blank canvas that encompasses both the beginning and end – whether it be of life, a creation, or a memory. Not just from ‘dust to dust’, but something more in the emptiness, the absence, the spaces in-between – that in the white space of which can sometimes be nothing and sometimes, be absolute chaos, there is also the inherent potential for the greatest act of creation – for life and growth. And sometimes it is in these empty quiet spaces that the greatest, fullest, most incomprehensible things are so marvellously said. As in music, the greatest musicians are those that play the rests (the silences) as well as they play the notes.
Even white’s position in the colour spectrum is debate-able. Some argue it belongs at the beginning, because white itself bears no hue, and some would say it’s at the end, encompassing all the colours simultaneously. This duality in the basis of the paint box palette spills over to associations of white signifying birth and death (the beginning and the end) – white weddings in the West and babies swathed white for a new life; whereas white is the colour of death, to be worn at funerals in the East - the colour or non-colour of absence.
----
White ideology is also powerfully shaded by political and racial overtones. This is explicit in works like I am White and I am Ashamed by Dragana Nikolic, and in Alex Mirutzui’s The Colour of my Middleclass pair of photographs.

What is White? The question almost ridicules in its seeming simplicity. White is white. A colour – the most basic of the spectrum. And that is all. …or is it?

28 different answers to the tale of whiteness invite viewers to see that a colour has its own peculiar language, leaping far from the crayon box. And, like language, it is in the power of those that use it, to define it and make their own stories. What is white?

Terminal00 is excited to be presenting a mixed show of contemporary art works from the Balkans containing photography, paintings, design, multimedia, short experimental films and videos answering the question "What is White?" by the following artists:

Ender Gelgec, Haris Pallas, Dragan Misic, Gokhan Okur, Vania Valkova, Zacharias Mavroeidis, Marija Arandjelovic, Katarina Kaplarski, Marijana Markoska, Dragana Nikolic, Alexis Simopoulos, Ivan Hrkas, Sasa Stucin, Andjela Grabez, Leona Dodig, Jelena Telecki, Marko Stojanovic, Alex Mirutziu, Borjana Mrdja, Jelena Vivoda, Manolis Anastasakos, Elvis Krstulovic, Selena Junackov, Svetlana Jovanovic, Andrej Djerkovic and Neno Belchev.
